How to search
Use company search with jurisdictionCode: "es". Pass a name as companyName or a registration number as companyNumber. companyNumber is read as nif.
Fields
An advancedQuery for Spain accepts these fields:

nif | Spanish NIF/CIF tax identifier (e.g., 'B12345678'). Format: one letter + 7 digits + one letter or digit. |
irus | IRUS code - Identificador Registral Unico de la Sociedad (13 alphanumeric characters). Not searchable: the register matches only name and NIF/CIF, so a query carrying an IRUS is rejected. |

- If a live search sends both a NIF/CIF and a company name, only the NIF/CIF is used.
- Live search matches only a company's current registered name; a former name returns no results. Search by the current name or by NIF/CIF.

A registration number sent as companyNumber is matched against the searchable schemes below; you do not name the scheme. All of them can appear in a company’s identifiers.

Identifier notes
- Spain has two sources with different identifiers: the primary company register keys on the NIF/CIF tax number, and official gazette (BORME) records key on the Hoja registral, a province-prefix-plus-sheet-number registry code, because the gazette never publishes a NIF. The two are not linked, so the same company can return a different record under a different identifier from each source.

Gotchas

| IRUS is not searchable | Live search matches only company name or NIF/CIF; a search by IRUS is rejected. Look up by name or NIF and read IRUS off the result. |
| BORME records carry no NIF | The bulletin never publishes a NIF/CIF, so gazette-sourced (BORME) records never carry one. Get tax IDs from the primary company register. |
| BORME ownership is sole owners only | BORME ownership data, when present, is a sole owner at 100%, by name only with no tax ID. Multi-shareholder companies show none. |
| Type inferred from name suffix | A sole owner or legal representative's type (person vs. company) is inferred from a legal-form suffix in the name: Spanish forms (S.A., S.L., etc.) and common foreign ones (GmbH, BV, Ltd, SAS). A company named without any such suffix can come back typed as an individual. |
| Companies without a NIF are unfindable | The registry occasionally lists a real, active company with no NIF/CIF. Companies are identified by NIF/CIF, so it is excluded from search results. |
Glossary

S.L. / S.R.L. | Sociedad de Responsabilidad Limitada (also written Sociedad Limitada): Spain's private limited company form and the most common structure for small and medium businesses, comparable to a UK Ltd or German GmbH. Left untranslated, like S.A. |
S.L.U. | Sociedad Limitada Unipersonal: an S.L. with a single shareholder. |
Sociedades de responsabilidad limitada / Sociedades anónimas | The register's own plural wording for the S.L. and S.A. forms, as it appears in the original legal form of a company report. The singular name is in the normalized legal form beside it. |
Vigente | The company is active and in good standing with the registry. |
No vigente | The registration is no longer current; the company is treated as inactive. |
En formación | The company is still being incorporated; registration is not final. |
Administrador único | The sole director: one person is the whole management body and represents the company alone. |
Administrador solidario / Administrador mancomunado | Two opposite arrangements where a company has several directors. An administrador solidario can act and bind the company alone; administradores mancomunados must act together. Both come back with the same English translation, 'Joint Administrator', so read the original Spanish role to tell them apart. The same solidario / mancomunado distinction applies to an Apoderado and a Liquidador. |
Consejero / Consejero Delegado | A Consejero is a member of the board of directors. A Consejero Delegado is the board member to whom the board has delegated its powers (the managing director). |
Presidente / Secretario | The chair and the secretary of the board of directors. The same person is usually also listed as a Consejero. |
Apoderado | The holder of a registered power of attorney: an agent acting for the company, not a member of its management body. |
Liquidador | The person winding up a dissolved company, in place of its directors. |
Auditor | The company's auditor of accounts. It is listed among the legal representatives although an auditor does not represent the company. |
Administrador concursal | The court-appointed insolvency administrator. |
