New to the API? Start with the jurisdictions overview, which explains how ordering, identifiers and documents work everywhere.
Company data here comes directly from Fyrirtækjaskrá.

How to search
Start with company search and jurisdictionCode: "is". Pass the name as companyName. Iceland takes no other search criteria.
Examples
{ "jurisdictionCode": "is", "advancedQuery": { "name": "Marel" }}The same query also matches Icelandair.
Company identifiers
Iceland has no number-based search: find a company by name, then use the kausateId search returns. These schemes label the values that come back in a company’s identifiers.
| Identifier | Appears as | Format |
|---|---|---|
| Kennitala Icelandic national identification number (kennitala) for companies | is_kennitala | ^\d{10}$ |
Documents you can order
| Document | Order by | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Icelandic Registry Document (Fyrirtækjaskrá) Per-document download from the Icelandic business register: founding documents, articles of association, additional notifications, and annual accounts. | A document ID from the list operation | Live |
| Icelandic Registration Extract (Fyrirtækjaskrá) Free registration overview ('yfirlit') PDF from the Icelandic business register | register_extractregister_extract_official | Live |
Documents with a shortcut are ordered directly by that name — for example register_extract. The rest are filings whose availability differs per company: call list documents first and order the ID it returns.

Gotchas
| Trap | What happens |
|---|---|
| Representatives mix many roles | The legal representatives list mixes auditors, inspectors, prokura holders (signatories) and liquidators with the chairman, CEO and board members, distinguished only by role — filter on role for board-level officers. |
| Listed hf. are exempt from UBO | Beneficial-owner data legitimately comes back empty for public limited companies (hf.) that are listed on a stock exchange — Icelandic law (Act 82/2019) exempts listed companies from beneficial-ownership disclosure, so an empty result for one of these is not a data gap. |
| Ownership only for ehf. and hf. | Shareholder data exists only for ehf./hf. — general partnerships, limited partnerships, cooperatives, sole proprietorships and other legal forms always return none. Even an eligible ehf. or hf. can return empty when its latest annual account has no usable ownership disclosure. |
