Start with company search and jurisdictionCode: "gg". Pass the name as companyName, a registration number as companyNumber, or both to narrow the result. Here companyNumber is read as registeredNumber.

Fields

To say exactly what you mean, send an advancedQuery instead. Guernsey understands these fields:

FieldWhat it does
nameCompany name to search for.
registeredNumberGuernsey registered number (e.g., CMP14169).

Examples

{  "jurisdictionCode": "gg",  "advancedQuery": {    "registeredNumber": "CMP14169"  }}

Search notes

  • The company-name search field only ever matches against a company's registered name — it is never compared against registration numbers. Typing a registered number (for example a value shaped like "CMP14169") into a plain name search will return no results; once you know a company's registered number, use it to fetch that company's report directly rather than searching by name for it.
  • Guernsey company search does not cap or page results to a requested limit — a broad name search can return every matching entity the registry holds rather than a bounded first page. Apply your own client-side limiting if you need to bound the result count; do not assume the API truncates the list for you.

Company identifiers

Search by passing the registration number as companyNumber — it is matched against the schemes this register can search on, so you do not name the scheme yourself. Not every scheme below is searchable; the rest label the values returned in a company’s identifiers.

Gotchas

TrapWhat happens
Number search returns an errorAdvanced search can't look up a company by registered number (or the universal company-number equivalent): the field validates but returns an error, not a match. Search by name instead, then use the registered number to fetch that company's report directly.

Glossary

TermMeaning
SLP (Separate Legal Personality) on Guernsey limited partnershipsA Guernsey limited partnership's legal form is recorded as either "Limited Partnership With SLP" or "Limited Partnership Without SLP." SLP stands for Separate Legal Personality: a partnership recorded "With SLP" is itself a legal person distinct from its partners, while one recorded "Without SLP" has no legal personality separate from its partners.
Protected Cell CompanyA single Guernsey company divided into "cells" that legally ring-fence each cell's assets and liabilities from the other cells and from the company's core — common for Guernsey insurance and investment vehicles.
Incorporated Cell Company / Incorporated CellA cell-based structure like a protected cell company, but each individual cell (an "Incorporated Cell") is itself a separately incorporated legal entity rather than just a ring-fenced account inside one company.
Migrated OutThe company has re-domiciled to another jurisdiction's register and is no longer registered in Guernsey — recorded as a distinct status from dissolution or being struck off.
Mixed Liability CompanyA Guernsey company in which some members hold shares carrying limited liability and others hold shares carrying unlimited liability, within the same single entity.
