How to search
Use company search with jurisdictionCode: "ky". Pass a name as companyName or a registration number as companyNumber. companyNumber is read as number.
Fields
An advancedQuery for Cayman Islands accepts these fields:
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
name | Entity name, or a General Registry number (92511, WC-368483), CIMA reference number, NPO number or LEI. |
number | A General Registry company or partnership number (92511, WC-368483), CIMA reference number, NPO number or LEI; matched in every register. |
Examples
{ "jurisdictionCode": "ky", "advancedQuery": { "name": "Kheiron Master Fund" }}Other accepted field combinations: number.
Search notes
- A number typed alone is matched in every register at once (company, partnership, CIMA, NPO), with or without its filing-agent prefix; a 20-character LEI matches that LEI.
- The index covers entities with an LEI, entities CIMA regulates, NPOs and entities named in a numbered Gazette notice since 2020. An exempted company outside those groups is not findable: the General Registry publishes no free register.
Company identifiers
A registration number sent as companyNumber is matched against the searchable schemes below; you do not name the scheme. All of them can appear in a company’s identifiers.
| Identifier | Type | Format |
|---|---|---|
| CIMA Reference Number The reference number the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority gives a regulated entity (fund, licensee or registered person) on its register of regulated entities. It is not the General Registry company or partnership number. | ky_cima_reference_number | ^[0-9]{1,8}$ |
| Cayman Islands NPO Registration Number The number the General Registry gives a non-profit organisation on the register kept under the Non-Profit Organisations Act. It is not the organisation's company number. | ky_npo_registration_number | ^[0-9]{1,6}$ |
| Cayman Islands Company Registration Number The number the Cayman Islands General Registry gives a company. It is printed with the filing agent's two-letter prefix (WC-368483); the prefix names the agent, not the company. Companies and partnerships are numbered in separate series. | ky_company_number | No fixed format |
| Cayman Islands Partnership Registration Number The number the Cayman Islands General Registry gives an exempted or ordinary limited partnership, in a series separate from companies. Printed with the filing agent's two-letter prefix, which names the agent, not the partnership. | ky_partnership_number | No fixed format |
Identifier notes
- General Registry numbers are printed with a two-letter filing-agent prefix (WC-368483, HS-359102). The prefix names the agent that registered the entity, not the entity, so it is dropped: the number is the digits alone.
- Companies and partnerships are numbered in separate series, so the same digits can name a company and an unrelated partnership. A CIMA reference number is not a General Registry number either.

Gotchas
| Topic | Details |
|---|---|
| Status is read from events | No source publishes the General Registry's own status. The status is the latest dated signal Kausate has read — a Gazette liquidation or final meeting, a strike-off, a strike by merger, a continuation out, CIMA's status from the day it took effect, an LEI record's expiry. Undated signals (an active LEI record, an NPO's register status) count only when nothing dated exists. Each event is listed in statusEvents with the document it came from. |
| Name-matched strike-offs | The General Registry's struck-off and pending-strike lists, strikes by merger and continuations carry names only. They are attached only when exactly one indexed entity bears the name, and their status event says it was matched by name. |
| CIMA licences | CIMA numbers each licence or registration, not the licensee. A firm CIMA lists under several licences is one entity: every CIMA reference number is among its identifiers and every licence among its activities. |
| One entity, several registers | A regulated fund can be known by a General Registry number, a CIMA reference number and an LEI, each from a different source. Entities that bear the same name are joined into one, carrying every number, unless a source tells them apart: two LEIs, two CIMA licensees, or two different General Registry numbers. The kausateIds of the joined records redirect to the one kept. |
| Legal form | The legal form is the one the entity's LEI record states. Where GLEIF says only "fund" or "mutual fund", the name's designation (Ltd, L.P.) says whether it is a company or a partnership; where GLEIF's code names a company and the designation a partnership, or the reverse, the designation wins. An entity without a form from GLEIF is read for the designation its name ends in (Ltd, Inc., LLC, SPC, L.P.), kept as `original`, with no ISO 20275 code: CIMA also regulates foreign entities. |
| No directors or documents | Directors, shareholders, beneficial owners and register documents are available only through the General Registry's paid, account-only search; no Cayman report includes them. |
Glossary
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
ACT, RO, LQ, LUT (CIMA status) | The status CIMA states for a regulated entity: ACT is active, RO is an insurer in run-off, LQ is in liquidation. LUT (Licence Under Termination) is an entity that has ceased its regulated business and is deregistering; it reads as inactive. CIMA stopped granting LUT in August 2022, so only earlier grants carry it. |
Struck by way of merger | The company merged into another and was removed from the register (Companies Act s.236(3)). |
Transferred by way of continuation | The company de-registered in the Cayman Islands and continued as a company of another jurisdiction, named in the status. |
