How to search
Start with company search and jurisdictionCode: "do". Pass the name as companyName, a registration number as companyNumber, or both to narrow the result. Here companyNumber is read as rnc.
Fields
To say exactly what you mean, send an advancedQuery instead. Dominican Republic understands these fields:
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
name | Company name (razón social) to search for. |
rnc | RNC or cédula to look up. Accepted dashed (101-01063-2) or undashed (101010632); 9 digits for an RNC, 11 for a cédula-derived RNC. |
Examples
{ "jurisdictionCode": "do", "advancedQuery": { "name": "BANCO POPULAR" }}Dominican Republic also accepts rnc.
Company identifiers
Search by passing the registration number as companyNumber — it is matched against the schemes this register can search on, so you do not name the scheme yourself. Not every scheme below is searchable; the rest label the values returned in a company’s identifiers.
| Identifier | Appears as | Format |
|---|---|---|
| Dominican RNC Registro Nacional de Contribuyentes (RNC) issued by the DGII — the Dominican Republic's single company-registration and tax identifier. Nine digits for an RNC (issued to legal entities and to natural persons alike) or eleven digits for a cédula-derived RNC. Displayed with dashes (101-01063-2) but stored and queried undashed. | do_rnc | ^\d{9}$|^\d{11}$ |
Identifier notes
- A Dominican RNC's length doesn't tell you whether the registrant is a company or an individual: a 9-digit RNC is issued to both, and only an 11-digit RNC is guaranteed to be derived from a personal cédula. Use the returned name or legal form to distinguish them, never the digit count.
- The RNC is the only identifier the Dominican Republic assigns to a registrant — it serves at once as the company registration number and the tax identification number, rather than the two being tracked as separate numbers the way many jurisdictions do.

Gotchas
| Trap | What happens |
|---|---|
| Name or RNC, never both | A search must specify a company name or an RNC/cédula, never both or neither — a request with both is rejected outright, not narrowed. |
| Half are tax-suspended | Only about half of registrants have active tax status at any time; most others are tax-suspended, not dissolved. Check the returned status rather than assume a company is operating. |
| Legal form read off the name | Legal form has no dedicated field — it's read off a trailing SRL/SA/SAS/EIRL/SNC in the company name, so it's missing when the form isn't at the end, or for individual registrants. |
| Only four fields exist | The register reports only legal name, trade name, status, and RNC/cédula. Registered address, share capital, and incorporation date aren't part of the source — blanks there aren't incomplete results. |
| Trade name often absent | Only about 56% of companies have a separate trade name; the rest carry only a legal name. Match by common name, but fall back to the legal name. |
Glossary
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
ACTIVO | Registered and in good standing with the tax authority. |
SUSPENDIDO | Tax-suspended, typically for unfiled returns. The company can still exist legally — DGII is simply not currently treating it as an active taxpayer. |
DADO DE BAJA | Struck from the taxpayer register — the closest this register comes to a formal dissolution. |
CESE TEMPORAL | A temporary halt in business activity, declared by the taxpayer itself. |
ANULADO | The registration was annulled and is treated as though it had never been validly registered. |
RECHAZADO | A registration application that was refused outright. |
SRL (Sociedad de Responsabilidad Limitada) | The Dominican Republic's limited-liability company form, and by far the most common form on the register. |
EIRL (Empresa Individual de Responsabilidad Limitada) | A single-owner limited-liability enterprise. |
SNC (Sociedad en Nombre Colectivo) | A Dominican general partnership. |
