Company identifiers
Chile has no number-based search: find a company by name, then use the kausateId search returns. These schemes label the values that come back in a company’s identifiers.
| Identifier | Appears as | Format |
|---|---|---|
| Chilean RUT Chilean Rol Único Tributario (RUT) - up to 8 digits, hyphen, check digit (0-9 or K) | cl_rut | ^\d{1,8}-[0-9Kk]$ |
| Commerce Register Entry | cl_commerce_register_entry | No fixed format |
| Commercial Registry Entry | cl_commercial_registry_entry | No fixed format |
Identifier notes
- A Chilean RUT's final character is a check digit computed from the preceding digits via a standard modulus-11 algorithm, not an arbitrary letter — a value of 10 is written as "K". A RUT whose final character doesn't match what that algorithm produces for the digits before it is rejected as invalid even though it has the right shape (digits, a dash, and one trailing digit-or-K).
- You can submit a Chilean RUT as plain digits with a dash and check digit ("91041000-8"), with thousands-separator dots ("91.041.000-8"), or with the dash left out entirely ("910410008") — all three are normalized to the same canonical form before use, so you don't need to strip formatting yourself.

Gotchas
| Trap | What happens |
|---|---|
| Legal form is the full name | A company's legal form "original" value is always its full legal name, not just the corporate suffix — the register has no separate legal-form field, so the form is inferred from a recognizable suffix in the name (S.A., SpA, Ltda., EIRL, etc.). Even when a name carries no recognizable suffix, "original" still holds the full name; only the normalized classification is left unset in that case, so a missing normalized legal form does not mean the field itself is empty. |
Glossary
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
Con inicio de actividades | The status text meaning the taxpayer has formally started business activities. Maps to an active company status. |
Sin inicio de actividades | The status text meaning the taxpayer is registered but has not started business activities. Maps to an inactive company status. |
EIRL | Short for "Empresa Individual de Responsabilidad Limitada" — a Chilean single-owner company structure giving one individual limited liability without needing a co-owner. |
SpA | Short for "Sociedad por Acciones" — a flexible Chilean share-capital company form, distinct from a traditional Sociedad Anónima (S.A.). |
