Fields

To say exactly what you mean, send an advancedQuery instead. Washington (US) understands these fields:

FieldWhat it does
nameBusiness name to search for.
ubiWashington UBI number, 9 digits (e.g. 600 413 485 or 600413485).

Company identifiers

Search by passing the registration number as companyNumber — it is matched against the schemes this register can search on, so you do not name the scheme yourself. Not every scheme below is searchable; the rest label the values returned in a company’s identifiers.

IdentifierAppears asFormat
WA UBI Number
Washington Unified Business Identifier (UBI) — a 9-digit statewide business number issued by the Department of Revenue and shared across WA agencies, displayed space-grouped by the registry (e.g. 600 413 485). It is the public identifier for a Washington entity; the registry accepts it spaced or unspaced.

Local notes

Gotchas

TrapWhat happens
EIN is usually absentA federal EIN is present on only a minority of Washington entities, mostly nonprofits — its absence on a for-profit corporation or LLC is normal and not a sign of missing data.
Activity text is free textThe business-activity text for a Washington entity is free text — the register's own category label plus the filer's own description — not a code from a standardized scheme such as NAICS. Don't map or join it against an external NAICS taxonomy expecting it to match.
Some filings have no documentNot every filing in a Washington entity's history has a retrievable document behind it. Office Correction filings are the clearest known case: the filing appears in the history, but requesting its document fails.

Glossary

TermMeaning
GovernorWashington's Secretary of State does not record officer or director titles. Every person with governing authority over an entity is listed under a single role, "Governor" (RCW 23.95) — treat it as the functional equivalent of a director or manager in this data.
