Company data here comes directly from Ohio Secretary of State — Business Search.
One of the jurisdictions under United States, whose page lists the others and covers the national register separately.

How to search
Start with company search and jurisdictionCode: "us-oh". Pass the name as companyName, a registration number as companyNumber, or both to narrow the result. Here companyNumber is read as entityNumber.
Fields
To say exactly what you mean, send an advancedQuery instead. Ohio (US) understands these fields:
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
name | Company name to search for. |
entityNumber | Ohio SOS charter (entity) number to search for. |
Examples
{ "jurisdictionCode": "us-oh", "advancedQuery": { "name": "Procter" }}Ohio (US) also accepts entityNumber.
Company identifiers
Search by passing the registration number as companyNumber — it is matched against the schemes this register can search on, so you do not name the scheme yourself. Not every scheme below is searchable; the rest label the values returned in a company’s identifiers.
| Identifier | Appears as | Format |
|---|---|---|
| OH Entity Number Ohio Secretary of State business entity (charter) number. Corporations, LLCs, partnerships and foreign registrations carry a numeric charter number (e.g. '20677', '4220225'); registered trade names are prefixed 'RN' and fictitious names 'FN'. Stored as the registry's charter number, uppercased, with no zero-padding. | us_oh_entity_number | ^(RN|FN)?[0-9]{1,12}$ |
Identifier notes
- The identifier's prefix tells you what kind of record it points to. A plain number identifies a registered entity — a corporation, LLC, partnership, or out-of-state (foreign) registration. An `RN` prefix marks a registered trade name and an `FN` prefix a fictitious name; neither is a company in its own right, just a name filed on the register.
Documents you can order
| Document | Status |
|---|---|

Local notes
Gotchas
| Trap | What happens |
|---|---|
| Statutory agent only | Only one person-or-company relationship is published: the statutory agent. No officers or directors are ever returned. |
| Search includes name filings | Search results include registered trade names and fictitious names alongside corporations, LLCs, and partnerships. These name filings have no legal-form classification and use an `RN`- or `FN`-prefixed number instead of a plain one. |
| Foreign registrations lose the address | For an out-of-state ("foreign") registration, no Ohio business address is returned at all — only the statutory agent's Ohio address. Ohio's register captures a physical business location only for entities formed in Ohio; a foreign entity's home state or country is not exposed as an address. |
| Imageless filings omitted | The filed-documents list only includes filings with a scanned image on file. A filing with no image — including some administrative ones — is omitted entirely, not flagged as unavailable. |
Glossary
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
Statutory Agent | Ohio's name for what's commonly called a registered agent. |
Held | The business's most recent filing is on hold and not yet in effect; the business is not considered active while it carries this status. |
Dead | The business no longer exists — merged out, expired, or otherwise closed — as distinct from a cancelled registration. |
Registered Trade Name | A name filing, not an incorporated business: it registers the right to use a trade name rather than forming a company. |
Fictitious Name | A name filing, not an incorporated business: it registers the right to use a "doing business as" name rather than forming a company. |
