How to search
Start with company search and jurisdictionCode: "us-de". Pass the name as companyName, a registration number as companyNumber, or both to narrow the result. Here companyNumber is read as fileNumber.
Fields
To say exactly what you mean, send an advancedQuery instead. Delaware (US) understands these fields:
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
name | Entity name to search for. |
fileNumber | Delaware file number (1–8 digit numeric string). |
Examples
{ "jurisdictionCode": "us-de", "advancedQuery": { "fileNumber": "5567943" }}Company identifiers
Search by passing the registration number as companyNumber — it is matched against the schemes this register can search on, so you do not name the scheme yourself. Not every scheme below is searchable; the rest label the values returned in a company’s identifiers.
| Identifier | Appears as | Format |
|---|---|---|
| DE File Number Delaware Division of Corporations unique entity file number, 1–8 digits. Assigned to every entity formed or registered with the Delaware Department of State, Division of Corporations. | us_de_file_number | ^[0-9]{1,8}$ |
Identifier notes
- Delaware file numbers are canonicalized without leading zeros before they're matched: a value like 0005567943 is treated the same as 5567943. If you're comparing or deduplicating Delaware file numbers against your own records (e.g. values pulled from a spreadsheet or another system that zero-pads them), strip leading zeros first — that's the form we store and return them in.

Gotchas
| Trap | What happens |
|---|---|
| No standing is published | Delaware's public entity lookup does not indicate whether a company is currently active, dissolved, or void. The state's own search explicitly states results are not a statement of good standing, and it surfaces active and inactive entities alike without distinguishing them. A missing status on a Delaware company reflects a real gap in the free public data, not a failed lookup. |
| Address is the agent's | The only address returned for a Delaware company belongs to its registered agent, not the business itself. Registered agents are typically corporate service firms that host the same address for thousands of unrelated entities, so this address should not be treated as the company's headquarters or place of operations. |
| Agent is the only representative | The only representative Delaware returns is the registered agent — never an officer, director, or shareholder; that data isn't available through public lookup. |
| Qualified entities have no code | A foreign entity only 'qualified' to do business in Delaware gets a general legal-form category but no Delaware-specific legal-form code — that code belongs to its actual formation jurisdiction. |
Glossary
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
Registered Agent | The statutory in-state contact every Delaware entity must designate to receive legal and state correspondence. In practice this is typically a corporate service company (e.g. a firm like Corporation Trust Company), not an employee, owner, or officer of the business itself. |
