How to use Kausate in Colorado (US) — what you can call, which identifiers it uses, and which documents you can order
New to the API? Start with the jurisdictions overview, which explains how ordering, identifiers and documents work everywhere.
Company data here comes directly from Colorado Secretary of State — Business Organizations.
One of the jurisdictions under United States, whose page lists the others and covers the national register separately.

How to search
Start with company search and jurisdictionCode: "us-co". Pass the name as companyName, a registration number as companyNumber, or both to narrow the result. Here companyNumber is read as entityId.
Fields
To say exactly what you mean, send an advancedQuery instead. Colorado (US) understands these fields:
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
name | Entity name to search for. |
entityId | Colorado SOS entity ID (11-digit numeric) to search for. |
Examples
{ "jurisdictionCode": "us-co", "advancedQuery": { "name": "Molson Coors" }}Colorado (US) also accepts entityId.
Company identifiers
Search by passing the registration number as companyNumber — it is matched against the schemes this register can search on, so you do not name the scheme yourself. Not every scheme below is searchable; the rest label the values returned in a company’s identifiers.
| Identifier | Appears as | Format |
|---|---|---|
| CO Entity ID Colorado Secretary of State business entity ID number, an 11-digit numeric string whose leading four digits encode the filing year (e.g. '19871012497', '20251665680'). A single legacy record carries 10 digits. Used as the primary key across every Colorado open-data business dataset. | us_co_entity_id | ^[0-9]{10,11}$ |

Gotchas
| Trap | What happens |
|---|---|
| Delinquent is the largest bucket | "Delinquent" is Colorado's largest status bucket, ahead of "Good Standing" — the company is still active, just missed a periodic report. Don't filter it out as closed. |
| Registered agent only | Colorado tracks only the registered agent — no officer, director, member, or shareholder data. The legal representatives list holds at most one entry, not actual management or ownership. |
| Foreign entities lose formation data | For a "foreign" entity (formed elsewhere, registered to do business in Colorado), the report omits incorporation date and original state or country of formation — only the Colorado registration date is shown. Domestic entities do get an incorporation date. |
| Agent role code is partial | The registered agent's role code is populated only for LLCs and for-profit corporations (~85% of the register). Other entity types return the name "Registered Agent" with no code — detect the role by name, not code. |
| Older filings may be missing | Filing history reach varies — long-established companies may be missing older filing events even though current details are up to date. Don't assume the document list is complete. |
Glossary
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
Delinquent | A company can carry this status while still being fully active: it means a periodic report was missed and the company lost its good-standing status, but it still legally exists and can cure the delinquency and be restored to good standing at any time. It is not dissolved or closed. |
Noncompliant | The company failed to maintain a registered agent — a compliance defect, not an end to its legal existence. The company still exists and can cure the issue. |
Registered Agent Resigned | The company's registered agent has resigned and the company must appoint a new one, but the company itself still legally exists. |
Exists | Colorado uses this status for entity types that have no periodic-report requirement — such as ditch and water companies, and corporations sole. It simply confirms the entity is currently in force. |
