Texas (US)
How to use Kausate in Texas (US) — what you can call, and which identifiers it uses
New to the API? Start with the jurisdictions overview, which explains how ordering, identifiers and documents work everywhere.
Company data here comes directly from Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.
One of the jurisdictions under United States, whose page lists the others and covers the national register separately.
What you can call here
What each operation does is the same everywhere and is explained on the jurisdictions overview.

How to search
Start with company search and jurisdictionCode: "us-tx". Pass the name as companyName, a registration number as companyNumber, or both to narrow the result. Here companyNumber is read as taxpayerId.
Fields
To say exactly what you mean, send an advancedQuery instead. Texas (US) understands these fields:
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
name | Entity name to search for. |
taxpayerId | Texas Comptroller taxpayer number (11-digit) or IRS EIN (9-digit). |
fileNumber | Texas Secretary of State file number (6–10 digits). |
Examples
{ "jurisdictionCode": "us-tx", "advancedQuery": { "taxpayerId": "11354090059" }}Texas (US) also accepts fileNumber.
Company identifiers
Search by passing the registration number as companyNumber — it is matched against the schemes this register can search on, so you do not name the scheme yourself. Not every scheme below is searchable; the rest label the values returned in a company’s identifiers.
| Identifier | Appears as | Format |
|---|---|---|
| TX Taxpayer Number Texas Comptroller 11-digit taxpayer number — the canonical per-entity key for the franchise-tax account-status register. | us_tx_taxpayer_id | ^[0-9]{11}$ |
| TX SOS File Number Texas Secretary of State file number assigned to an entity at the time of its formation/registration filing. | us_tx_sos_file_number | ^[0-9]{6,10}$ |
Identifier notes
- The identifier search field accepts either the Comptroller's 11-digit taxpayer number or a 9-digit IRS EIN — two identifiers from two different authorities that can look interchangeable because both are plain digit strings. Whichever one you search with, the result comes back keyed under the 11-digit taxpayer number, not the EIN.
- The Secretary of State file number on a company's report is not a variant of the taxpayer number — it's a wholly separate identifier, assigned by the Secretary of State (not the Comptroller) when the entity files its formation paperwork. Don't expect to derive one from the other.

Gotchas
| Trap | What happens |
|---|---|
| Too many matches returns nothing | A name search matching too many entities returns an empty result set, not an error or pagination. If a broad query returns zero results, narrow it — more of the legal name, or search by identifier instead. |
| Titles truncated to ten characters | Officer and director titles may arrive truncated to about ten characters (e.g. "VICE-PRESI", "SEC/TREASU") or abbreviated ("SRVP") due to a fixed-width field. Match on normalized role, not raw title text. |
| Status is franchise-tax standing | Status reflects only franchise-tax standing (the right to transact business), not general corporate life-cycle status. Anything but Active means that tax standing was ended or forfeited. Texas separately tracks a Secretary of State registration status, which Kausate doesn't return. |
| Foreign entities have no code | A company formed elsewhere but registered to do business in Texas appears as a foreign entity: it gets a legal-form category (corporation, LLC, etc.) but no Texas-specific legal-form code — that's governed by its home state. |
Glossary
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
FORFEITED | Texas has forfeited the entity's right to legally transact business in the state, generally for not meeting its franchise-tax obligations. |
FRANCHISE TAX ENDED | The company voluntarily ended its own Texas franchise-tax account rather than having Texas revoke it. |
FRANCHISE TAX INVOLUNTARILY ENDED | Texas ended the company's franchise-tax account involuntarily, rather than the company closing it itself. |
ACTIVE, ELIGIBLE FOR TERMINATION/WITHDRAWAL | The company is still active in Texas but has become eligible to file to voluntarily terminate its existence or withdraw its registration. |
NOT ESTABLISHED | No franchise-tax account has ever been set up for this taxpayer with the Comptroller. |
