Start with company search and jurisdictionCode: "us-pa". Pass the name as companyName, a registration number as companyNumber, or both to narrow the result. Here companyNumber is read as filingNumber.

Fields

To say exactly what you mean, send an advancedQuery instead. Pennsylvania (US) understands these fields:

FieldWhat it does
nameEntity name to search for.
filingNumberPA DOS filing number (digits; zero-padded to 10).

Company identifiers

Search by passing the registration number as companyNumber — it is matched against the schemes this register can search on, so you do not name the scheme yourself. Not every scheme below is searchable; the rest label the values returned in a company’s identifiers.

PA Filing Number
Pennsylvania Department of State filing (entity) number — canonically a 10-digit zero-padded string (e.g. '0000326968'). Values are normalized to digits only, zero-padded to 10.

Gotchas

TrapWhat happens
Everything reads ACTIVEEvery entity shows ACTIVE status — the register lists only currently-registered businesses, so a dissolved or withdrawn entity disappears from results rather than changing status. Disappearance is the closure signal.
No sole proprietorshipsPennsylvania does not register sole proprietorships with the Department of State, so you will not find an individual trading under a business name in this data source. A Pennsylvania sole trader instead files a fictitious name at the county level, which sits outside this register — don't treat a missing result for a known sole proprietorship as a data gap.

Glossary

TermMeaning
GovernorIn Pennsylvania officer/principal listings, "Governor" is a role label for the generic person who directs an entity under state law — for example an LLC's manager or member-manager, or a corporation's director — not the state's chief executive.
AuthorityAn entity type of "Authority" in this register is a Pennsylvania public body created and governed under state law, not a private business — distinguish it from an ordinary corporation or LLC when working with entity-type data.
