What you can call here
What each operation does is the same everywhere and is explained on the jurisdictions overview.

How to search
Start with company search and jurisdictionCode: "us-nj". Pass the name as companyName, a registration number as companyNumber, or both to narrow the result. Here companyNumber is read as entityId.
Fields
To say exactly what you mean, send an advancedQuery instead. New Jersey (US) understands these fields:
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
name | Business name to search for. |
entityId | New Jersey DORES entity id (10 digits) to search for. |
Examples
{ "jurisdictionCode": "us-nj", "advancedQuery": { "name": "Johnson & Johnson" }}New Jersey (US) also accepts entityId.
Company identifiers
Search by passing the registration number as companyNumber — it is matched against the schemes this register can search on, so you do not name the scheme yourself. Not every scheme below is searchable; the rest label the values returned in a company’s identifiers.
| Identifier | Appears as | Format |
|---|---|---|
| NJ Entity ID New Jersey Division of Revenue and Enterprise Services (DORES) 10-digit numeric entity identifier (e.g. 5106301000 for JOHNSON & JOHNSON). The registry's own Entity ID search validates it as exactly 10 digits, digits only. Trade names/trade marks are filed under a shorter 6-digit Business ID Number on a different schema and are out of scope for this identifier. | us_nj_entity_id | ^[0-9]{10}$ |
Identifier notes
- New Jersey's Entity ID identifies a formally registered corporation, LLC, partnership, or foreign entity. New Jersey also issues a separate, shorter Business ID Number for registered trade names (assumed/DBA names), on a completely different numbering scheme that this identifier does not cover — and New Jersey does not register sole proprietorships under this scheme at all, so it will never resolve one.

Gotchas
| Trap | What happens |
|---|---|
| Registered agent only | The company report's only relationship is the registered agent — no officer, director, or shareholder data, even though the rest of the report is complete. |
| Agent type unmarked | A registered agent's name may be an individual or a corporate registered-agent service — the register doesn't distinguish them, so don't infer which from the name alone. |
| Null status means undetermined | Status can come back null even when the company is found — there's no explicit status field, so null means standing couldn't be determined, not that the company doesn't exist or the call failed. |
| Revoked is not dissolved | `registrationRevoked` means the entity was struck for failing to file annual reports — not in good standing, unable to transact, but not dissolved and still reinstatable. `inactive` is broader: it doesn't distinguish dissolved, merged, withdrawn, or cancelled. |
| Business address is city only | A business's own address includes only its city — never a street or postal code. A fuller address (street, postal code) may appear only on the registered agent's office, when present. |
| Duplicate names, unstable order | Two distinct businesses can share the exact same name, and duplicate-name search order isn't stable across calls. Match and de-duplicate on entity identifier, never on name or list position. |
| Capped at 500 results | Business search caps at 500 results with no further paging — narrow your search terms if you hit the cap. |
