Company identifiers

Singapore has no number-based search: find a company by name, then use the kausateId search returns. These schemes label the values that come back in a company’s identifiers.

IdentifierAppears asFormat
Singapore Unique Entity Number
Singapore Unique Entity Number (UEN) - alphanumeric identifier assigned by ACRA
sg_uen^[A-Z0-9]{9,10}[A-Z]$

Identifier notes

  • A Singapore UEN does not follow one single pattern. It shows up either as a plain 9-digit number followed by a single check letter, or as a letter ('S' or 'T'), two digits, two letters, four digits, and a final check letter. If you parse or validate UENs yourself instead of treating them as an opaque string, build for both shapes rather than assuming one consistent layout.

Gotchas

TrapWhat happens
Terminal-sounding statuses are notA status that sounds terminal doesn't always mean the entity is inactive: both "Gazetted To Be Struck Off" (listed for removal, not yet removed) and "Live (Receiver or Receiver and Manager appointed)" (a company in receivership) are still reported as active. If you're gating a decision on the active/inactive flag alone, read the underlying status text too for these two cases.
Unmapped forms carry raw textFor entity types outside the mapped set, the legal-form field can carry raw, malformed text instead of a normal name. Treat it as displayable text, not a fixed set of values to match against.
ISIC tag, national codesSingapore's industry activity codes are tagged with the international ISIC Rev. 4 classification scheme, but the codes themselves are Singapore's own national classification, which diverges from the literal UN ISIC Rev. 4 list. Don't expect every code to resolve against a generic ISIC Rev. 4 reference table.

Glossary

TermMeaning
Live CompanyThe active-status label used for incorporated companies. A sole proprietorship or partnership in the same active state is labelled "Live" instead — don't match on "Company" to detect an active business.
LiveThe active-status label used for sole proprietorships and partnerships, as opposed to "Live Company" for incorporated companies.
Gazetted To Be Struck OffThe entity has been publicly listed for removal from the register, but removal has not taken effect — it is still reported as an active entity while the process is pending.
